Orbit Logic Delivers Collection Planning Software to DigitalGlobe
GREENBELT, MD, (February 27, 2007) -- Orbit Logic announced today the delivery of Collection Planning Component (CPC) software to DigitalGlobe. The CPC will provide automated and enhanced mission planning and collection planning capabilities for DigitalGlobe’s QuickBird and soon-to-be-launched WorldView 1 commercial imaging satellites. The delivered CPC solution incorporates high-fidelity spacecraft models, automated planning algorithms, and a scalable clustered computing architecture to support future additional satellites. Functions provided by the software include contact scheduling and de-confliction, planning window management, lights-out automation, automated collection planning with optimizing algorithms, recorder management and downlink planning, and graphical user interfaces for manual planning for both satellites. CPC also incorporates Satellite Tool Kit maps and animation that provide operator situational awareness.
“The challenge for us on this contract was the schedule,”
said Alex Herz, Orbit Logic president. “Ten months from contract signing to system delivery is a phenomenal accomplishment and a credit to both the flexibility of Orbit Logic’s commercial Collection Planning System baseline and to the engineering talent at DigitalGlobe and Orbit Logic.”
CPC will next undergo integration, testing and QuickBird shadow operations at DigitalGlobe’s Longmont facility, and is expected to be operational prior to the WorldView 1 launch scheduled in mid-2007.
“We are pleased at the working relationship and the ability to have Orbit Logic modify and deliver a highly automated collection planning component, capable of supporting the dramatic increase in collection volumes that we will see with the launch of our WorldView system, in such a short amount of time.”
commented Walter Scott, CTO and founder of DigitalGlobe.
