Orbit Logic Delivers OrbView Tasking System
GREENBELT, MD, (June 22, 2004) -- Orbit Logic announced today the delivery of five planning systems to ORBIMAGE and its worldwide regional distributors for the tasking of its OrbView-3 commercial imaging satellite. The systems include the OrbView Tasking System (OTS) software developed by Orbit Logic that allows operators to define OrbView-3 imagery collection plans. OTS interfaces with Satellite Toolkit from Analytical Graphics for flight-dynamics-related calculations and incorporates the spacecraft’s attitude slewing and scanning models to verify spacecraft attitude and resource constraints.
“The OrbView Tasking System demonstrates that planning software can be both low cost and high fidelity,”
said Orbit Logic President Alex Herz. “This is a COTS-based tool that meets the detailed requirements for a specific program at a much lower cost and risk than would be possible with a purely custom application development effort.”
The OrbView Tasking System will be used at ORBIMAGE locations in Dulles and St. Louis, and by ORBIMAGE regional distributors in Asia for OrbView-3 imagery collection planning. “With the availability of this new planning system, our regional distributors can plan their own area collections instead of relying on ORBIMAGE. This allows them to make changes much closer to data downlink time. The changes may be due to weather or other factors.”
